Chronic was formed in February 2010 by Guitarist Dennis Asp and Vocalist Rich Stager.
Asp and Stager are accomplished musicians, and their virtuosity is apparent. However,
the vision for Chronic is primarily focused on the songwriting.
Asp shares, "When I was a kid, music was extremely important to me. When one of my
favorite bands released a new album, I couldn't wait to get it. When I d
id, I would
open it up, put it on, and listen to it in its entirety while looking at all of the
album art and reading everything from cover-to-cover. Music really moved me. I would
love for Chronic to be that kind of band."
Stager says, "Performing has always been my passion. In elementary school, I actually
played the role of the Scarecrow in the Lincoln School's rendition of The Wizard
of Oz - I'm such a geek! Later, I played with bands whenever or wherever I could.
It was always such a rush. I listened to any music with a melody and a singer with
dynamics. I was into everything from Journey to Iron Maiden. I would get captured
by the vocalist, and the rest would be history. I remember the first time I heard
Steve Perry sing; I was a freshman in high school, and my ear tuned in to Perry's
amazing voice. I've been a Steve Perry fan ever since. I was also a very big fan
of Bruce Dickinson from back in the original MTV days. I heard "Run to the Hills,"
and I was amazed by Bruce's range and control. And I can't forget Rob Halford, another
great metal singer who amazed me with his voice. The list goes on and on, but my
favorite singers of all time are Perry, Dickinson, and Halford. People thought it
was kind of strange how I could be a fan of bands like Journey and Survivor and then
go totally metal with bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Skid Row. But I always
followed the singer. If I liked the voice, I would listen to the music. If the vocals
were average, you probably didn't hear it coming from my car or room."
Chronic is currently in production, busy writing and recording their debut CD. They
anticipate releasing the CD in the Fall of 2010. At that time, they will begin performing
in the Central Florida area.
